FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
(Under Section 4 (1) (b) (i) Right to Information Act 2005)
Government of India, under United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has set up a Process-cum-Product Development Centre (Sports Goods & Leisure Time Equipment) (PPDC) at Meerut to cater the technical needs of sports goods & leisure time equipment industry.
The Process-Cum-Product Development Centre (PPDC), Meerut was initially established as a Department of Government of India, Ministry of Industry under Small Industries Development Organization and later on was registered as Government of India Society under Societies Registration Act 1860 from 24-3-1986. The affairs of the Society are managed by a Governing Council, having representation from Sports and allied industry.
The basic objective of the Centre is to uplift indigenous Sports Goods Industry by making available adequate and Appropriate Technology, Trained Manpower for improving the quality of products and diversification of items as also to provide modern Research & Development facilities for quality up gradation, manufacturing processes & new improved designs in the field of Sports Goods and Leisure Time Equipment to augment the export of sports goods from India.
(A) To develop new technologies and upgrade the existing level of Technology of Sports Goods and Leisure Time Equipment.
(B) To develop new Products/Designs of Sports Goods and Leisure Time Equipment.
(C) To identify export-worthy Sports Goods products and Leisure Time Equipment, Develop and Establish Technologies for their manufacture.
(D) To improve the quality of these products through Quality Control and Standardization to meet the National and International Standards and also make this industry competitive.
E) To impart training of craftmans and supervisor from the industry in the field of manufacture and development of Sports Goods.
(F) To collect, collate and disseminate technical information and know how to the user industry by providing Documentation Services and coordinate with Research and Development Institutions.
(G) To render technical support services through the Common Facility Workshops & Laboratory in the above areas.
(H) To conduct Market Research and identify products for Domestic and Export Markets.
This also renders services such as:
• Common Facility Services preferably to Sports Goods Industries.
• Testing Facilities preferably to Sports Goods Industries.
• Technical Training to existing and prospective entrepreneurs.
• Consultancy primarily to MSME Sector in the field of Sports Goods & Leisure Time Equipments.
